"The Mesa Arizona Temple: A House of the Lord" by Dan Speakman
"I have always considered the temple to be a sanctuary from the world - a place where true peace, the peace that only God can give, could be felt. I wanted to create a painting that depicted the temple not as it appears, but as it feels. A place separate from the world, where God can speak peace to his children."
In 2008, Dan Speakman created this painting of the Mesa Arizona Temple. The intent of the painting was to showcase the sacred building and the regional landscape that gives it such great meaning to those who live in it's vicinity. The mountains (Red Mtn on the left and the Superstitions on the right) along with the foreground landscape elements are composed in a way that are not true to life, but highlight their unique features and beauty.
For members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, temples are holy places and are considered the "House of Lord." This painting attempt to depict this special place in a way that is befitting its role and symbolic purpose - a place where heaven meets earth.
